Sunless Spray Tanning

Q. When will I notice results?

A. You will begin to notice color in 4 - 6 hours after your session.  The color will continue to darken to its full potential within 24 hours.  If you desire more immediate results, you can choose to add an insta-color bronzer to your spray cartridge for instant color while waiting for the full color results.

Q. How should I prepare for the sunless spray session?

A. Some very simple skin preparation will provide the best results.  The day before your spray tan you should shower, shave, exfoliate and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.  On the day of your spray tan, you should shower and lightly exfoliate the drier areas such as elbows, knees, and heels to provide a nice even canvas for your spray tan application.  Come in with clean, dry skin - no lotions, makeup or deodorant, as these can act as a barrier to the absorption of the spray solution.  Wear loose fitting clothing and footwear.  Consult our staff about products like exfoliation scrubs and lotions to enhance your skin, before and after your spray tan.

Q. Can I also tan in the tanning beds and in the sun?

A. Yes. There is nothing in the sunless solution that would prevent you from tanning in a tanning bed or in the sun.  Please remember that your sunless tan is cosmetic tan and will not provide protection from sunburn outdoors, so it is recommended that you follow your normal practise for sunburn prevention.  Many clients find that tanning with UV rays and the Mystic tan actually gives them a better overall tan.  If you wish to do both in the same day, we recommend that you use the UV tanning bed first.  This will avoid altering your sunless results due to perspiration.

Q. How long after a sunless spray session can I put my clothes back on?

A. Our Mystic HD sunless spray booth incorporates a heater/dryer feature, so you will be almost completely dry when you leave the booth.  If you have areas that feel damp, you can pat dry with a towel and put your clothes on immediately.  There is little chance of the bronzer or DHA getting on your clothes, but if it does, it should wash out easily.  If you pursue any strenuous physical activity in the first 24 hours after your sunless spray session, perspiration may cause your color to transfer to your clothing.

Q. How does it tan the skin?

A. The active ingredient in the sunless spray is DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which has been used in cosmetics for decades.  The DHA reacts with the proteins and amino acids in the top layer of the skin to produce a tan.

Q. How long will my sunless spray tan last?

A. Healthy, hydrated skin will achieve color faster and hold results longer.  Depending on the condition of the skin, most people keep their color for 5 -7 days.

Q. How long should I wait after my sunless spray session before showering?

A. We recommend that you wait a minimum of 4 -6 hours after your spray tan session to give the DHA enough time to fully set.  If you shower earlier, you may diminish the intensity of the tan.  When you do shower, if you have added an insta-color bronzer it will wash away, but the DHA will remain and create your long-term color.  For the same reasons, we recommend you avoid large quantities of water like swimming, doing dishes or being in the rain unprotected.

Q. Will it turn me orange or cause streaking?

A. NO!  In the past, self-tanners gave many people an unnatural orange glow and caused streaking.  Most of these undesirable results were caused by improper or ineffective application techniques.  Applying self-tanning creams or lotions by hand can result in excessive amounts being absorbed in areas of the skin.  Excessive amounts applied in a single application by hand or airbrush application can give an orange glow to the skin or tend to run and cause streaking.  The MagneTan technology used to apply the Mystic HD sunless tanning solution assures that all areas of the body get a uniform amount of the solution in the exact quantity needed to produce natural looking results.
